Ennio Morricone, Grand Officer OMRI (Italian pronunciation: [nnjo morrikone]; born November 10, 1928) is an Italian composer, orchestrator, conductor, and former trumpet player who has composed music for over 500 films and television shows, as well as modern classical works. He has worked in a variety of genres throughout his career, making him one of the most diverse, prolific, and influential cinema composers of all time. More than 60 award-winning films have included Morricone’s soundtrack.  Morricone, who was born in Rome, has written over 100 classical works since 1946. He worked for RCA as a prominent studio arranger in the late 1950s. With them, he arranged approximately 500 songs and collaborated with artists including Paul Anka, Chet Baker, and Mina. Morricone rose to international prominence by composing the music for Italian westerns directed by Sergio Leone, Duccio Tessari, and Sergio Corbucci, including the Dollars Trilogy, A Pistol for Ringo, The Big Gundown, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Great Silence, The Mercenary, A Fistful of Dynamite, and My Name is Nobody (between 1960 and 1975). Morricone created music for a variety of cinema genres throughout the 1960s and 1970s, ranging from comedy and drama to action thrillers and historical pictures. Several of his pieces were commercially successful.
